The soul of your home
The heart of the home is getting more personal in 2021
People are spending a lot more time at home and as we all know, that means more time in our kitchens. We are all seeking places that feel friendly, comfortable, and warm. The kitchen, more than ever, has become the soul of our homes.
Designers and home owners have been stepping up their designs, creating kitchens that feel more relaxed and reflect the homeowners’ personalities.
Below we highlight a few fabulous kitchens and various ways to achieve these looks in your home.
Warm tones and organic elements create comfort.
To create a warm, serene kitchen consider mixing wood tones with warm complimentary elements like off white cabinets, marble like counters, and warm textured walls. The two cabinet fronts above are similar in tone creating a soothing look but different in texture which keeps the space from feeling bland. Also by mixing the hardware, the space feels much more personalized than if everything matched.
If you are interested in a kitchen that feels organic and nature inspired, here is a great example. This small kitchen designed by Beth Web, is a lovely mixture of natural elements, including the slate floors, soapstone backsplash and countertop. The variation in the door fronts also adds a very curated feel.
Art is becoming a regular
Art work is a great way to show your style in the kitchen. It can be fun and casual like the first image or more sophisticated as shown above. Either way it adds a lot of impact and can also be swapped out easily if you are in need of a change.
Beyond the all white kitchen
Bold choices for bold people. If you want colour, let designer Rita Konig’s London kitchen inspire you. Reserving the bold rich colour for the base cabinets only, allows the space to feel light and airy. Wallpaper as backsplash adds lots of personality. You can always cover it with plexiglass in busy prep and cleaning areas.
Here is another example of how to effectively use different textures, colours and patterns. You can mix many design elements and still creating a soothing kitchen if that is your style.
Details, details, details.
White kitchens do not have to be boring. The above shows that adding a bold island and countertop surface creates character. The wood ceiling and beams are also great ways to add rich detail and warmth.
This may be my favourite. The use of contrasting wood drawers and vertical paneling in the cabinet show that small, surprising details are what makes a kitchen standout. Again, not matching your metal hardware to your faucet brings a more personal look.
We hope you enjoyed the eye candy and it inspires beautiful kitchens in your life.
