A Few Of Our Favourite Things
As all of our worlds have been turned upside down, it has taken a bit of time to adjust to the new normal. Shannon and I decided that for this newsletter, we would share some of the things (design related and not) that have kept us going during social distancing. We hope you enjoy and would love to hear what has worked best for you.
Lots of time to read
I have always liked reading but sometimes it gets pretty far down on my priority list. Over the past month, I have been trying to make it more of a daily routine as I find it restful and calming. Here are a couple of reads that have kept me occupied and inspired.
The Dutch House
So you guessed it, this is a story about a house, which is kind of perfect for design lovers. “A deeply pleasurable book about a big house and the family that lives in it…Like many-windowed mansions at its centre, this richly furnished novel gives brilliantly clear views into the lives it contains.” - Krikus Review.

“Spaces and stories of creative women”
This magazine just looks good. The photos, paper weight, font, it is a pleasure to pick up and browse through many times. It also contains relevant information for creative types, including setting up a work space, social media tips, and ways to enhance creative flow. stampington.com/in-her-studio/
Creature Comforts
Since we are spending a lot of time in our homes, it is great having certain items on hand to enhance spaces and overall comfort.
The softest fleeced blanket
Ok, so this image does not really reflect what is happening in my house, but I do love the Pokoloko fleeced line blankets to cuddle up with. It has been one of North Nik’s best sellers and once you are wrapped up in it, it is pretty easy to understand why. www.northnik.com/pokoloko_fleecelined
Pigeon Soy Candles
This Montreal based company makes the best smelling soy candles. They come in a variety of scents including, summer, lavender, hot chocolate, and blackberry current. We have a couple left in the showroom and can order you specifics scents, as well as ship them to your home.
Cocktail Hour
When the world was fully opened, cocktail hour did not really exist in our house. Running home from work, exercise class and kid’s activities, we were lucky to get dinner on the table by 7:00. But now, we have a leisurely hour or so before we eat. I have been enjoying this time, hopefully not too much :).
Barr Hill Gin
I discovered this gin through a friend’s newsletter. It is made with juniper and raw honey and tastes delicious not matter what I mix it with. Their website has great cocktail recipes too. caledoniaspirits.com/spirit/gin/
Some food to go with that
In case you want to eat too, Shannon has picked a great recipe from Roni’s Kitchen cookbook. Roni grew up in Israel and her cookbook is influenced by mediterranean cuisine. Her recipes rely on lots of fruit and vegetables, something we all benefit from! (We do have a few copy’s in the showroom if you are interested).
Stuffed Mushrooms
Time With Our Furry Friends
I have seen lots of comments about how pets must love having all their family members home all the time. I imagine it’s true. It is also true (at least for Shannon and I) that our pets bring us a sense of fun and normal daily routine that can be hard to find during social distancing. We have been enjoying our pups very much!
Thanks for reading,
Shannon and Holly
